On Sunday 8 February our U14 EHC Cup team and their coach, Billy and manager, Matt, headed out to a damp HS of Glasgow to represent our club at the Scottish Hockey U14 Cup Qualifiers!
The schedule was grueling, with our team of toughies having 5 qualifying games to play in a pool of 6. First up was Kelso and despite having a number of opportunities at goal, we just couldn't find the net. Admittedly hadn't really played much together as a squad so Game 1 was the opportunity we needed to connect up with each other. After that, the team clicked and produced some amazing hockey throughout the day, winning all the other games and setting ourselves up for a semi-final against ESM, who placed top 2 in the other pool of 5 teams. Despite not having a rest between the last qualfiying game and the semi, our team showed NO signs of stopping and gave every last ounce of their energy at the end of the 7-hour day, winning the game 2-1 and qualifying to play in the Scottish Hockey Youth Cup Finals Day, against Grange on Sunday 15 March, at Glasgow Green.
Results:
vs Kelso 1-1 draw
vs Steppes 9-0 win
vs Clydesdale 1-0 win
vs Inverleith 4-1 win
vs Hillhead 2-0 win
vs ESM 2-1 win
Huge congratulations to all our players and an extra shout-out to our scorers and both our goalkeepers for their contributions to sealing the deal, while our midfielders kept the EHC Mean-Machine going!
Massive thanks to Billy and Mally for their coaching/umpiring/admin duties and all the parents for their support on the sidelines! Lovely to see our U14s stepping up and our U14 Coaches and Youth Coaches can be very proud that their hard work over the last 2 years is also paying off! Good luck in the Finals, Team!
